Jeremy showed up (yesterday) and did a great job grading and compacting the site for the concrete pads. I am quite sore today from raking and shoveling. Left ~1" below final grade (I used Jeremy's laser level) as can't get right on with this shale material. Will need to bring in a little gravel (small sized stones 1/2"
minus) and hand rake and use a plate tamper to get to final grade. Jeremy also let me drive the dozer which was a new experience.
Bring in the plumber for sub slab plumbing.
Found out from the neighbor (a house builder) that there is a house in Charlottetown that was built of rammed earth (here is the link, built in 1947-48 http://www.historicplaces.ca/en/rep-reg/image-image.aspx?id=3632#i1 and still standing. Apparently the original owner / builder is no longer alive but his daughter lives in the house. The neighbor is going to set up a meeting)

Close to final grade with local shale. Brody says lets just live in the basement and make a clay tennis court. Maybe we'll make one if we don't go broke (have fun and stay fit) |
Looks good.
ReplyDeleteIf not a tennis court, you could open a horse track! The gambling proceeds could fund the next floor of the house!
ReplyDeleteLooks like the project is coming along great! I hope more people follow your footsteps and open their mind to a better way. Looks like you are having a great time on the job. I look forward to coming over soon.
