Put on a little gravel (class A, which is supposed to be ~3/4" stone minus with a lot of fines for compacting) to get to final grade. In hindsight I wouldn't have done this and just had Jeremy spend a couple more hours with the dozer and get to near final grade with the shale. We compacted the gravel with a rented plate tamper but it didn't really compress very well on the very hard packed shale. Also a
fair amount of larger rocks (~1") sticking up which could puncture the Delta MS HDPE membrane (although I don't think that is likely). Difficult to get smooth and level with the larger stones.
The wind was quite strong (gusting to 40-50 Kmh) and almost lost the membrane to the wind so had to stop. This will be a concern for the styrofoam as well until the rebar and wire mesh are layed. We picked up the 2X6's for the garage and will use this to lay on top of the styrofoam until the rebar gets layed. Tried to rent a storage container but none available on the island :-(. Got on a waiting list with 3 companies but don't like my odds. Hopefully we will finish the membrane and sub slab insulation tomorrow and then hopefully won't have to wait too long for the concrete contractor to show with the rebar and materials to secure the forms.

Brent zonked out around 8pm after a windy sunny day raking the pad level. Hard work. Amanda making fun of me. At least she didn't mark up my face or shave my eyebrows. |

A dusting of class A gravel to get to final grade. Dead tired after raking this, even though we used a slinger truck and he was very good. It was also very windy so between the wind and the raking we were beat. |

Hauled up forms and picked up some more 6" X 4' X 8' insulation for under slab. |

Forms on Delta MS HDPE dimpled membrane. Stair stringers for basement Brody and I cut out sitting on saw horses. Are cutting in half and adding a hinge so we can access under the stairs for dry cool storage (e.g., for apples). I will show the details of these in a later post. |

Delta MS HDPE dimpled membrane with some of the forms on. Starting to take the shape of a house. I new it would take a while to get the slab done but I think if we get the slab done well it will set the rest of the build up to go smooth. |
